Church of the Master Feeding Ministry
Church of the Master sponsors a free breakfast every Saturday from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m., September through June, for the needy in the community. All are welcome. The Church’s Feeding Ministry is licensed by the State of Rhode Island Health Department. There are also five state certified Food Handlers with at least one present at each breakfast.
Scriptures such as Matthew 25:35 -- “When I was hungry you gave me something to eat, and when I was thirsty, you gave me something to drink, when I was a stranger, you welcomed me”. -- guided us in writing our mission statement which is: “The Church of the Master Feeding Ministry will serve the needy in our community by providing a welcoming place of hospitality, feeding the body and the spirit, while being sensitive and responsive to human need in the name of Jesus Christ.”
Between 75 and 130 people are served breakfast each Saturday with teams of 10 to 16 volunteers cooking, serving and cleaning. We are blessed with wonderful volunteers from Church of the Master and Iglesia la Esperanza as well as other churches and individuals. Both those who are served and those who serve have been blessed by this ministry.
Bibles, both English and Spanish, are available to anyone who would like one. Spiritual encouragement is also available to any who seek it.
We are also grateful for the resources that allow us to provide a wholesome meal each week. Our funding comes from various sources, including Church of the Master, other churches, individuals and organizations. We also receive some assistance from the R.I. Community Food Bank, USDA and the Feinstein Foundation.
The menu varies from week to week with choices such as pancakes, French toast, breakfast sandwiches, scrambled eggs, waffles, along with either sausages, bacon or ham, as well as baked beans, hash browns, hot and cold cereal, fruit, juice, coffee, tea, hot chocolate and extra treats as available.
There is a Feeding Ministry Committee that meets bi-monthly to plan and evaluate. We continually look for better ways to serve. We welcome new ideas and suggestions.
Every effort is made to maintain a warm, hospitable atmosphere where guests are treated with respect and dignity. We are also happy to have new groups of volunteers join us. If you would like more information on volunteering or offering financial support for breakfast expenses, please call the church at 861-5568.
“Lord, grant me a heart of compassion
So burdened for other’s needs
That I will show them Your kindness
In attitudes, words and deeds.”
