The Church of the Master came into being in 1949 as a result of the merger of the Plainfield Street Baptist Church and the Broadway Baptist Church. These two churches had served the Olneyville area for a combined period of over two hundred years. The Plainfield Street Baptist Church dated back to 1828 and the Broadway Baptist Church to 1865. The two Churches renovated the Broadway building for their merged congregation and the Plainfield Street building was razed.

On January 1, 1965, the Federal Hill Baptist Church, which had served the Italian community on Federal Hill for 61 years, closed their building on Knight Street and merged with The Church of The Master.

In the middle 1970's the congregation of The Church of The Master took a giant step of faith and voted to construct a new up-to-date cost-efficient Church on the same site in Olneyville. The old building was torn down and the present structure was erected. The congregation moved into the new Church the first Sunday of December, 1978, and the official dedication was held on September 23, 1979.

Now in our about 55th year as Church of The Master, we are committed to serving as a Christian beacon, bringing the light, hope and love of Jesus Christ to the Olneyville community. Helping to feed the hungry has become an important part of our ministry.

The scripture above the door beckons all to "Come unto me". It is our hope and prayer that each person who enters here will feel welcomed and experience the joy of our very special, warm and caring fellowship.
